About Phillip Maynard Studio

I am a photographer drawn to the quiet tension that lives in ordinary places. My work often looks for drama that exists when nothing overt is happening — where mood and memory meet in shadow.

Influenced by the street photography of Vivian Maier and Garry Winogrand, and the intimate black-and-white portraits of Sally Mann and George Zimbel, I use both digital and film cameras to explore the subtle poetry of streets, small towns, and the spaces we move through every day.

Photography, for me, is not about spectacle but about observation. I’m interested in what remains when the noise falls away: the light on a wall, the curve of a street, a gesture in passing. Sure, I love the busyness of a city sidewalk as well, with all of the people coming and going, but the moment when they’re gone interests me just as much.

This site is a place to share my evolving series — from Small Town Ohio to NYC Streets to Covered Bridges — each body of work connected by an interest in atmosphere, memory, and the beauty of everyday life.

Thank you for visiting, and for seeing the world with me through these images.
